The Endless Lake

There was an endless black lake with 3 disembodied spirits wandering without aim, when a Great Spirit of Light landed on the surface and created a world of wonder and joy. It was built on the water going far above and below the surface. The disembodied spirits were invited to join in the creation. One spirit went to it without hesitation and immediately became filled with light and rose up out of the water becoming an Ascended Spirit. The second spirit was displeased and spoke for the first time—

"How dare you! Remove this nonsense at once!"

The Great Spirit's voice thundered, "The Lake is endless. You may go away as far as you'd like." And so he left, with resentment.

The third spirit was scared and unsure. For him the Great Spirit created a body where he could swim through the lower part of the creation. He called it "Fish". It would eventually perish and he could then decide whether or not to remain part of the creation or to return to the black whence he came.

The resentful demon would spend his days tricking and torturing the fish and trying to turn him against the Creation. He hated the monstrosity (with all of it's awful blinding light) and wanted it gone, with all spirits released from it. "Why should any-thing exist at all?" he thought. The Ascended Spirit came down and guided the Fish showing him the wonders of the new world, hoping he would join them and stay forever making magical things together.

One day the Fish perished and the Great Spirit asked him "Will you join us? Far greater wonders lie above the surface."

The spirit answered and lived with his answer for all of time.
